Washington, DC (July 14, 2005)—To help the nation’s estimated 36,000 assisted living facilities plan for the 11th Annual National Assisted Living Week (NALW®), the National Center For Assisted Living (NCAL) has posted the 2005 Planning Guide and Product Catalog online at www.nalw.org. The NALW planning guide contains event ideas and products designed around this year’s theme, “A Fair To Remember.”
Assisted living facilities (ALFs) can engage residents, employees, volunteers, relatives, local officials, and community organizations in recalling the local fairs of yesteryear while commemorating the vital role of assisted living facilities. NALW® is the premier celebration for assisted living facilities.
ALFs participating in the celebration can involve residents, involve family members, the surrounding community, and thus illustrate how the assisted living profession promotes independence, dignity, and quality of life for the estimated 900,000 residents living in ALFs. Residents receive care and supervision as needed.
ALFs can create a festive atmosphere through blue ribbon bake-off contests, petting zoos for residents and relatives, or organizing antique cars parades. These ideas and other resources are included in the 12-page planning and product catalogue guide. The product section of the guide reinforces the fair-atmosphere with posters and t-shirts imprinted with the NALW A Fair to Remember logo. Local, state or federal representatives can be involved by agreeing to sign a public proclamation. The template proclamation is also posted on the NALW Web site.
NALW® was created by NCAL in 1995. The 2005 celebration marks the second consecutive year that the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the Assisted Living Federation of America and NCAL are celebrating together. All three organizations welcome CNL Retirement Corp. as the week’s corporate sponsor. CNL, a real estate investment trust, is one of the nation’s leading investors in the seniors housing market and specializes in the acquisition of premium independent and assisted living communities.
The National Center For Assisted Living, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, and the Assisted Living Federation of America are committed to advancing the assisted living profession and the compassionate, quality care of residents. Combined, the three national associations represent nearly 10,000 not-for-profit and for-profit assisted living residences through affiliates located in most states.
